Traditional genre lines have all but dissolved, and impossible-to-classify artists like Billie Eilish or Brockhampton or Deafheaven enter the conversation every day. "Indie rock" as we know it has shapeshifted and split off into smaller factions that are weirder, deeper, and darker, from John Maus to Alex G. Hip-hop has overtaken rock and pop as the heart of youth culture we've seen the rise (and decline) of EDM, the trap takeover and SoundCloud rap renaissance, the reemergence of horny-as-hell R&B, and the second coming of nĂ¼ metal. The last 10 years in music have brought about seismic shifts.
